There are several costs involved in running a website:

Design

We charge a flat rate of £25 per hour for our services (not currently subject to VAT).
As a rough guide, a basic site like CU Cleaning or Books of Knowledge would take about 10 hours, while Dales Decorating would take about 20 hours. A site like Living Ethically would take in excess of 200 hours.

Design of a simple company logo typically takes around 5-6 hours.

Domain name registration

Your website domain name (eg ethicalwebdesign.co.uk) needs to be registered with a central company (for .co.uk domains this is Nominet)

We are not currently able to register your domain name for you, but there are various agents that can do this for you, and we generally recommend Hostroute.

Their charge for a .co.uk domain is currently £10 for 2 years (correct as of 31 January 2008) - this includes 10Mb of webspace, which you could use to host a small website. However there are no advanced features, and no service level agreement or uptime guarantee with this.

Hosting

This is the charge for storing your website on a third-party server connected to the internet.
This varies depending on the size of your website, and indeed the additional features you require.

We can also organise hosting for you, and our charges start from £49 per annum for 50Mb of web space and 4Gb monthly bandwidth (click here for full details of all our hosting packages).
Please note that we can currently only host sites designed by us.

If you would rather use a different host this is fine with us - you just need to sign up with them, and send us the details so we can upload your site for you.
NB If you do want to use another host we recommend that you check with us before you sign up, just so we can make sure that your selected package includes all the features you need to run your website.

Updates

If your website needs updating after the initial design (eg new products to be added) we can also do this, again at a flat £25 per hour (there is a minimum charge of 1 hour for each batch of updates).

If you would prefer a fixed-price quote to include all of the above charges, this can also be arranged.
